Project Name: iiifls1
Wikitech Usernames of requestors: Manducus
Purpose: Set up IIIF (http://iiif.io) compatible interfaces for content from Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
Brief description: This project intends to convert metadata and image content from Wikimedia Commons into IIIF compatible formats (Image API and Presentation API) and make them available through appropriate services. Will install: Apache httpd, IIPImage http://iipimage.sourceforge.net and a couple of tools (imagemagick, python etc.) This machine will convert and host image content. For inital tests and demos low disc quotas may be sufficiant. However additional disc space, memory and cpu power is very welcome in order to create an impressive user experience. In order to provide the content IIIF compatible it must be accessible via HTTPS and requires CORS headers to be set. There also exists a fully featured demo of a similar service here on my personal private server: https://iiif.manducus.net/collections/collection.json (follow URIs to more metadata and image API endpoints). It is currently not intended to provide web based interfaces for endusers, just to be clear on that. The huge benefit of this project is to make content from Commons interoperable in terms of LOD- and IIIF-principles.
How soon you are hoping this can be fulfilled: as soon as possible, a demo could probably be shown at this years IIIF conference in Washington DC http://iiif.io/event/2018/washington/
