Deemphasizing formatting tokens
Open, LowPublic

Description

I felt it would be a helpful feature to dim formatting tokens, as per Bear on the Mac (screenshot below). I really enjoyed how it decluttered the content. Thoughts?

I really love the example you showed, but we just don't have time to make any more changes. Community Tech is winding down our time investment on a CodeMirror integration.

CodeMirror can be customized via user CSS: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Tech/Wikitext_editor_syntax_highlighting#Color_and_style_customization

From my chat with Drewmutt yesterday, this ticket is specifically for the 2017 wikitext editor. Our team can't work on it but maybe someone from Editing can take it on at some point.

I wouldn't want to diverge the colour scheme between the two editors.

Currently the formatting tokens are light blue. Is the proposal just change that to light grey?

There may also be accessibility concerns if the contrast is reduced too much.
