Per https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:CirrusSearch#Deepcategory and T369808 I assume this needs to be supported by CirrusSearch first as exposing dysfunctional options in the Advanced Search doesn't make much sense.

Negative do work and this is very useful. I've used it extensively with this query for example. However, the deepcategory operator often does not work, see the issue above. Maybe this should be closed since it does work in principle as of now.
