This request feels like over-engineering to me.
However if the maintainer agrees I'm of course happy to create a project.

You can never be sure that no issue exist in any code you wrote (in fact, every code contain some issues). Those issues should be tracked somewhere. There's nearly a thousand of extensions existing in gerrit and nearly a thousand enabled on WMF wikis, there should be a central place for all issues related to wiki things.

There are 179 extensions currently deployed on Wikimedia wikis (see the list); we're trying to reduce that number, not increase it.

The extension itself or creating a project? Having a bug tracker is one of the requirements for deployment https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Review_queue#General_prerequisites_and_expectations

Despite the extension being simple, there will always be reasons to file bugs, whether it be eventual CI failures, tech debt migrations, etc. :-)

You should probably say that on T194577: Deploy MontserratFont extension to Wikimania2018 wiki.

I'm fine with there being a Phabricator project, though I'm not expecting much activity.
