Per our meeting, monte has a WIP here already.
Process wise I see this playing out as:
- When the RC build is created an email goes out with link to snapshots
- The release manager (PM and/or project manager) will scan the snapshots and assess if there are any blockers
- Add a release checklist item to "Verify no blocker visual or localization issues by reviewing RC snapshots"
Per the meeting this is tagged on 5.8.2 but could happen in 5.9+ depending on @Mhurd's other priorities.
cc @ABorbaWMF as this is something QA might want to be involved in/using as well, for example as part of smoke test process.
What this isn't:
This is not visual diff or visual test related functionality.
What this is:
Think of this as "printing the app", for easier proofing of release candidates.
