Add Addshore & possibly other WMDE devs/deployers to the wikidata icinga contact list
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Currently I get the emails for the wikidata contact group (as do some other wmde devs) via the wikidata-monitoring contact which is a mailing list held by WMDE.

As I understand it from the comments in icinga config files:

"By default, users can only issue commands for hosts or services"

As we currently use a mailing list, none of our individual users are actually in the contact group, thus we can do nothing with our services (such as wikidata dispatching) on icinga.

If being added as a direct contact for the wikidata group would allow such acks etc of problems with services attached to the wikidata group then please could I be added to the group?

I don't know who else is currently listed on the group individually, but it may make sense for some other wmde devs/deployers to also be added for access.
Other users currently might include:

I could also be misunderstanding icinga, and being added to the group may not actually allow any access, in which case this ticket could just be closed.

[operations/puppet@production] add addshore and aude to wikidata contact group

Before I add @aude and @Ladsgroup let's make sure they want to be added, I suppose.

Ladsgroup has agreed on Gerrit. Though i note that the spelling of his Icinga contact name in the private repo is "Ladsgroup" with a capital L and we often run into issues where you can login with both versions but only one of them grants you the permissions.. the one that matches Icinga's point of view (vs. auth LDAP)

Quite some time has passed now, any update here?

@Addshore and @Ladsgroup should be on the contact list (patch merged at the end of May!). @hoo was already on it. Is no one getting notifications?

Yea, i think the only part missing here is that you (guys) confirm if it works. The "login on web UI and see if you can ACK / leave a comment / schedule a downtime" for checks with the wikidata contacts. We can go through it together on IRC if you like.

Have you had a chance to check that it's working for you folks?

It looks like I still can't schedule downtime which is what I was expecting to happen as an outcome of this ticket :/

I have it from a very good source (;-) that the problem turned out to be a case-mismatch issue and that when logged in with the name as it appears in the gerrit patchset (all in lower case), the ACK worked. Accordingly I am closing this ticket.
