use name from signature
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Currently, topics are signed using the *machine* user name, it would be great if it were possible to sign them using the value of "signature" setting from users' preferences.

For one use case: my username in Wikimedia projects is in Arabic script because Arabic wikipedia was my home wiki long before the user account unification process. But this makes it difficult for other to mention me in StructuredDiscussions.

A good solution would still be needed to map signature names to usernames, taking into consideration that the first are non-unique and currently support wikitext!

Hi @ahmad, thanks for reporting this.
I don't know what a *machine* user name is. :(
Can you please follow https://mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug when creating tasks and structure your tasks by providing a list of steps to reproduce the problem, click by click, plus the expected outcome, and the actual outcome? Thanks.

Hallo @Aklapper ,

Actually this is not a problem. It's a feature request.

And by machine username I mean the username you use for logging in into the system, as opposed to the signature name that you set in setting -> signature.

Thanks
