Infobox templates are being parsed and substituted with Content Translation
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I don’t use this tool, so I can’t find a better task if this already exists and/or was resolved, I was just dealing with consequences:

Seems like I can find at least 14 other examples here (that weren’t resolved at the time of filing the task): https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search/insource:/data-name/

UPD: https://ru.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Parmotrema&action=history (24th July 2018, might be deleted soon), so the issue happens now.

In the future, if you are aware of such shenanigans, please report them to the communities, or, even better, try to clean up yourselves.

Thanks for the feedback and examples, @stjn

Content Translation uses the standard editing surface that browsers provide, which is not always reliable when manipulating complex content and wikitext. Currently we are working on a new version of Content Translation that uses a more solid editing surface. This is expected to solve many of these issues, and these examples will be useful to test how the new version deals with them. thanks for reporting them.

Due to the diversity and complexity of templates, it won't be always possible to adapt them across languages, but with the new version we are also working on communicating better the issues that users may find in the process (T192271).

One difference with the task you’ve provided is in that in this case, a template exists and was inserted through Content Translation interface with some means (since it has data-name="Фильм" etc. which are present in infoboxes of Russian WP), but was subsequently somehow substituted.

Template substitutions have been problematic in the current version of the tool (version 1). With a more reliable editing surface, the new version (version 2) should work as expected, producing clean wikitext. For the case you described, where the equivalent template can be found though Wikidata, it should just add the "Фильм" template as a proper template.

Version 2 can be accessed for testing, but will not be widely used until it replaces version 1. We are focusing our efforts on completing the new version as soon as possible in order to deliver these improvements to all users, and reduce the efforts needed to clean-up glitches of sub-optimal wikitext.

OK, thanks, I’ve just (mistakenly) figured that I might clarify that in case of not getting that it is our template instead of original one.

I cannot reproduce it with new translations. Please reopen if you have an example.
