CX2: The warning of unmodified machine-translated text is displayed when 'Use source text' option is used
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

  1. There are some language pair that do not have automatic translation options, e.g. ru->gu, gu->es. Select such languages and start translating.
  2. Only two options for translation are available - "Use source text" and "Don't use machine translation". Select "Use source text" and click to add some paragraphs. (click on 'Add translation'). The paragraphs will be added in the source language.
  3. Make some edits in translated paragraphs - the warning of unmodified machine-translated text appears which is incorrect - the text will b just the source text.

Note: Why the options for translations are called 'Automatic translation' even if there will be no actual options for MT?

Event Timeline

Even though using the source text is not machine translation, we still want to control that users edit the content enough. The new message proposed for the warning (T200768) makes the connection a bit more clear: "Your translation contains X% of unmodified text" can work for both MT and source.

Note also that even when copying from source, there is some automatic translations done for content such as links, where they point to articles in the target language.

Given the above, I'm inclined to decline the ticket. As we do some user research we may want to pay attention on how clear this card is for users when translating to languages that lack Machine Translation support.
