[BUG] Double tagging of mobile edits
Closed, DeclinedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

How many times were you able to reproduce it?

Every time

Steps to reproduce

Make an edit in the iOS version

Expected results

Generally, the rule in across the Wiki project is that if one category is a more specific version of another, you use the most specific version. So if you edit an article on a Commodore 64 peripheral, you would add it to the Commodore 64 peripherals category, and NOT the Commodore 64 category.

Tags should follow the same logic.

Actual results

The edit is double tagged with both "Mobile edit" and "Mobile app edit". This is wrong.

Event Timeline

Unfortunately this is necessary and not a bug. Here's why: these are a hierarchy, but because systems use each level they all have to be listed (at least for now).

That is, "mobile edit" means apps or mobile web.
"Mobile apps" means Android or iOS apps
"iOS app" means the iOS app.

So, like a category these are redundant, but some gadgets, reports and other systems use each level, and expect a certain level (so some things look for all mobile edits, some reports are just iOS edits). Ideally all these systems would know that "iOS app" inherently implies mobile edit. But they don't.

Restricted Application changed the subtype of this task from "Task" to "Bug Report". · View Herald TranscriptMay 31 2019, 5:23 PM
