Assess VE mobile text input situation for each target wiki
Open, HighPublic

Assess basic text input in each target language on at least one common Android IME.

Without knowing the language in question, enter a small amount of text in a variety of contexts, to identify issues with viewport scrolling, selections, keyboard show/hide, and candidate text being lost / duplicated / prematurely committed.

Obviously, this does not replace the need for acceptance testing by editors who understand each individual language.

Steps to perform:

Target wikis:

Acceptance criterion: for each target wiki, the above steps have been performed, and each arising issue has been recorded and analysed in detail (i.e. the enough to understand the underlying cause, expressed as an interplay between the mobile IME, the browser DOM, VE ContentEditable classes and the VE data model).

Quarterly goal work.

This task needs a lot more definition added to it of what's going to be done as part of it, such as acceptance criteria, and so on.

hi @dchan, this card came up during today's "Board Refinement & Deep Dives" meeting.

Specifically, 2 questions around it resembling:

  1. Does this ticket's position in the "Stalled/Waiting" of our Current Workboard column accurately reflect its current state?
  2. If this card is in fact "Stalled/Waiting," what is contributing to it being so?

Considering there hasn't been any community interaction on the VisualEditor Mobile IME Analysis talk page or on this card itself, I'm assuming it's blocked at Step 1 of the "Acceptance criterion," but please let me know if our understandings differ.

Acceptance Criterion (from Description):

  • Step 1: "for each target wiki, the above steps have been performed..."
  • Step 2: "the above steps have been performed"
  • Step 3. "each arising issue has been recorded and analysed in detail"

Removing task assignee due to inactivity, as this open task has been assigned to the same person for more than two years (see the emails sent to the task assignee on Oct27 and Nov23). Please assign this task to yourself again if you still realistically [plan to] work on this task - it would be welcome.
