attempt to visit en.wikidata.org subdomain stalls
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

I request that if one enters the URL en.wikidata.org into a browser, that it goes to wikidata.org, preferably with the English front end.

Instead when I try this in Chrome and Safari I get a long delay followed by "This site can’t be reached. en.wikidata.org took too long to respond" or "Can't open page." Likewise fr.wikidata.org.

I recognize this can be called user error but let's just meet the user's unambiguous request.

I don't think we are going to be bringing these domains back.

Aklapper edited projects, added Wikidata.org, DNS; removed Wikidata.

I'm going to boldly decline as the current situation is intentional (see https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/operations/dns/+/119032/ ) and as the cost of maintaining the list of language prefixes whenever ISO 639-3 gets updated or new languages are introduced outweighs the gain of going to www.wikidata.org and having your browser simply pick up your interface language setting. As a workaround you could explicitly go to https://www.wikidata.org/?uselang=en
