Description

BlueSpiceSkin is not in use anymore and should be archived

ATTENTION: Only master branch should be archived. REL_* branches should be kept for bugfix and security patches. Thanks!

To-do list

  • This task
    • Add maintainers of that skin as subscribers to this task (if they have no apparent Phabricator account, notify them on-wiki or via email if possible and note it here).
    • Add Phabricator project <#ProjectX> as a tag for this task, or Other-skins if there is no project.
  • On-wiki documentation
    • Archive documentation on mediawiki.org (provide URL): replace page contents with {{TNT|Archived skin|last revision|reason=archive reasons}}; include a link to this task in the reason parameter. If that documentation was translatable, remove <translate>, visit Special:PageTranslation, and click "remove from translation" (if you don't have the translation administrator right, ask a user who does).
    • Archive Wikidata item associated with documentation page (provide URL) (remove nearly all statements, except instance of (P31) = MediaWiki skin (Q21996535), which should add a qualifier end time (P582) = the YYYY-MM-DD date that you decided to archive skin, generally per edit history, change English (and other languages if possible) description to "archived MediaWiki skin" (and its translation)).
  • Phabricator
  • Translatewiki.net/translations
    • Remove from translatewiki.net (groups/MediaWiki/mediawiki-skins.txt).
  • Configuration/tests/integrations/etc.
  • Repositories

In addition, I am displeased the patch was merged without pinging translatewiki.net people first.

Only one of the tasks in the to-do list has been marked as completed, and there was no discussion here about any special considerations to be taken when archiving this skin. Seems there's a lot more than just TWN people being left out of the loop going on.

(On a related note, what's the preferred method of notifying TWN people of these archivals? Currently [as you can see] the to-do list doesn't provide any guidance on this point.)

I am sorry about the confusion. And I want to explicitly apologize to the TWN people. When we started to archive extensions there was a misconception on our side. Some of the extensions can actually be archived. Which means they can completely be removed from WMF Git/Gerrit (In such a case we need to create a task like this). But some extensions (or in this case "skins") should not be removed. They need to stay in Git/Gerrit. Just the master branch should be emptied (with a small README). And of course the connection to TWN would need to be removed. CI config needs to stay for the legacy release branches as long as they are supported. We did this in the past with BlueSpiceExtensions [1].

This task is therefore obsolete.

Again, my apologies.

The simplest way is to slap translatewiki.net tag on a relevant task and we'll take care of routing it to the right people.

Added to the template, though maybe it would be better for the project tag to be added automatically by the Projects-Cleanup task form?

As mentioned before, I don't think there is anything to do anymore. The repo has been removed from TWN, the master branch hast been emptied. Legacy branches and their CI configuration can remain untouched. Is it okay if I close this task?

Krinkle added a subscriber: Krinkle.

Done: Deactivated Diffusion mirror, Deleted GitHub mirror.

Not done: Marking Gerrit repo as read-only (because the archiving note says REL1_27 may still receive changes).

@Krinkle "Deleted GitHub mirror" means that also changes to REL1_27 won't be available through github.com anymore, doesn't it?

Okay... If it is not too much work, could you reenable the sync to github then? Diffusion can stay disabled, but github.com servers as source for our internal builds. And as we support REL1_27 for at least one year we will need it to be in sync. Sorry for the inconvenience. I will close this task, so no additional work will be done. It's been a mistake to file a full fledged "archive request" for this repo. Again, my apologies.

Nevermind. I found a different solution. Thanks.
