Definitely not a Wikimedia issue, and sounds better for site JS or a Gadget anyway. Marking WONTFIX.

Did you mean "not a MediaWiki issue"? It is indeed a Wikimedia issue. Anyway, bug 17471 has more supporters on Commons, and it's unclear if there is a configuration variable for it.
