Create banners for first campaign on mobile enwiki
Closed, ResolvedPublic3 Estimated Story Points

Description

We haven't been displaying mobile banners on enwiki before, but want to do that during this year's campaign. We will be testing the WMF's changes to the banner text against the text we had in late 2017. The banners should be based on the variant banner of test 02 on mobile dewiki.

Acceptance Criteria

  • The German messages are translated as stated in the table below.
  • Both banners contain a notice below the submit button.
    • The notice states "Please note that the donation process continues in German."
    • The notice is styled as the notice regarding text messages.
  • The banner text is as stated in the table below.
  • The slides contain the following text parts:
    • To all our readers in Germany. We will get straight to the point: This DAY_OF_WEEK we ask you to protect Wikipedia's independence.
    • Only a tiny portion of our readers give. The price of a coffee is all we need.
    • If everyone reading this gave a small amount, we could keep Wikipedia thriving for years to come.
    • Most people ignore this message. But we hope you’ll think about how useful it is to have unlimited access to reliable, neutral information.
    • Please take one minute to help us keep Wikipedia growing. Thank you.

controlDear readers:We will get straight to the point: Today we ask you to help Wikipedia. To maintain our independence, we will never run ads. We depend on donations averaging about 20 €. Only a tiny portion of our readers give. HIGHLIGHT: If everyone reading this gave a small amount, we could keep Wikipedia thriving for years to come. The price of a coffee is all we need. When I made Wikipedia a non-profit, people warned me I’d regret it. Over a decade later, it’s the only top ten site run by a non-profit and a community of volunteers. Has it crossed my mind how much we could have made if it had ads? Sure. But it wouldn’t be the same. We wouldn’t be able to trust it. Most people ignore my messages. But I hope you’ll think about how useful it is to have unlimited access to reliable, neutral information. Please help keep Wikipedia online and growing. Thank you! — Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia Founder
variantTo all our readers in Germany. We will get straight to the point: This DAY_OF_WEEK we ask you to protect Wikipedia's independence. To maintain our independence, we will never run ads. We depend on donations averaging about 20 Euro. Only a tiny portion of our readers give. HIGHLIGHT: If everyone reading this donated a small amount, we could keep Wikipedia thriving for years to come. The price of a coffee is all we need. It's a little awkward for us to ask you, this DAY_OF_WEEK, as we're sure you are busy and we don't want to interrupt you. But there's never an easy time to remind people that giving to Wikipedia not only supports a service you frequently use, but it helps keep a neutral internet alive and thriving. We can't afford to feel embarrassed, asking you to make a donation — just like you should never feel embarrassed when you have to ask Wikipedia for information. We do it in the pursuit of free knowledge that's always ad-free, never tracks your data, and is never sold off to corporate big-wigs. That's nothing to be embarrassed about, if you ask us. When we made Wikipedia a non-profit, people warned us we'd regret it. But if Wikipedia became commercial, it'd be a great loss to the world. Wikipedia is a place for you to learn, not a place for advertising. It unites all of us who love knowledge: contributors, readers and the donors who keep us thriving. The heart and soul of Wikipedia is a community of people working to bring you unlimited access to reliable, neutral information. Please take one minute to help us keep Wikipedia growing. Thank you.

@kai.nissen The sliding mini banner text is missing, or am I confusing things here?

I just added the slides content to the description.

English mobile banner is live now.
