Books added directly to New Libris (not imported from the old catalog) do not have a numeric Libris Editions ID. We previously used controlNumber to find the Libris Edition ID, but in these new books , this field contains the URI.

Retrieve the Editions ID from another place (there was some sort of sameAs IIRC) to make sure we can detect when it's missing, and not add it.
