Description

We want to test a different banner text. We want to put focus on the first sentence of the banner text by adding a different highlighting. The banners are based on the control banner of T205102.

Acceptance Criteria

  • The text of the control and variant banner is changed according to the table below.
  • The first sentence of the banner text is bold and has a green (#97b314) line under it.
  • The highlighting is animated.
  • No other text element of the banner text or headline are bold.

Notes

  • The text for the banners differs only in the highlighted part.
  • The highlighting is currently done by dividing the text into spans adding a bottom border to it. There is code to do that in the repository. We did some highlighting by underlining text last year, currently it is used in banners on wikipedia.de.

Hi Tim, that was fast! I found some issues which need to be changed:

  • The text of both banners is not correct and not conform to the description above
  • Both banners differ in height (in some view port sizes) because of different text lenght. Can you give banners equal height (i think by adding invisible letters in the shorter text version)?
  • The tracking parameters are not correct: keywords are ok, but the campaign is still an old tracking parameter.

Hey @Tobias_Schumann_WMDE, thanks for testing! Sorry about the text mess-up, I misread something in the ticket requirements, should be good now. I have also added some invisible text in the length of the text size difference, so both banners should now scale equally. Tracking parameter is also updated (I hope this does not mess up fundraising-backend like last week?).

Hi @Tim_WMDE Now everything looks good.

Regarding the switch of the tracking parameters and the lack of tracking last week, gabriel wrote: "Ah yes, the banners were not renamed in CentralNotice. ... I've fixed it just now - created new banners with new tracking codes and replaced the ones in the campaign in CN" Perhaps that helps?

Yeah, I have tried that now, I don't fully know how to test it, though. I assume everything will be okay, just maybe keep an eye on it when the banners go live.

I'm sorry @Tim_WMDE, I missed a thing: could you please make the salutation "Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, " not-bold in both banners? Thanks!

I will have look on the tracking when banners go live.

@Tobias_Schumann_WMDE No worries, I have removed the bold font type now.

@Tim_WMDE Thanks!
The test will start today. But can you please change the start time to 4 pm (=3 pm utc i guess)? Important: You'll have to prolongue the ongoing test 9 to 4pm, too.
And furthermore please set the imp limit on test 10 to 5%.

@Tim_WMDE Thanks! Before we forget that on Monday: You can prolongue test 10 to Tuesday, Nov. 13th.
