IABot should not add an archive template within {{Literatur}}
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

On dewiki, IABot should not add a template within {{Literatur}}:

Currently, it is not clear what it should do instead. I'm trying to figure this out.

Related to T210848: IABot repeatedly adds its signature to an already existing archive template, inserting a template within a template sometimes causes two templates being added:

Waiting for community input on how to to handle dead links within {{Literatur}}.

Turns out there is no way to add an archive link to {{Literatur}} while using a template, but IABot needs to use a template. Hence, we need to wait for the template to be fixed.

Would it just be better to simply have the bot ignore Literatur? Or are there too many of them?

There are way to many for the bot to ignore, but it's an issue with a specific user blocking the bot, not the template itself. For now, IABot should ignore the template, but that's not a feasible solution going forward. As soon as it is running again, community pressure will build up to fix dead links in {{Literatur}} as well.

In beta12, due to a technical limitation, the Webarchiv template will be appended to Literatur. Thus the Literatur template will not be broken the bot will not infinitely keep updating the timestamps. Unfortunately, there is no better way for the bot to do this unless wiki specific parsing code is created, and I'd rather not do this. This can be disabled by having the bot ignore Literatur templates. If the Literatur template can handle archive URLs via a parameter, that would be awesome.
