Wikipedia text display problem: an opening double-quote character is hanging at the end of a line
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

In the displayed text of a wikipedia article, an opening double-quote character (") appears at the end of a text line. The problem occurs in the article Potato Head Blues, second paragraph. I have examined the editable text of the article, and can find nothing obviously wrong with it that would cause such a malformed result. The displayed text looks like the following, where in order to illustrate the problem clearly, I have reproduced some extra lines after the problem, and have inserted line breaks in places where they occur in what I see.

Not strictly speaking a "blues," the chord structure is a 32-bar form in the same neighborhood as "
(Back Home Again in) Indiana." The recording features notable clarinet work by Johnny Dodds, and
the stop-time solo chorus in the last half of the recording is one of Armstrong's most famous
solos.[3] The last, hot "ride out" chorus is an example of this New Orleans jazz custom brought to
the level of genius through Armstrong's inspired melodic playing.

Reedy renamed this task from Wikipedia text display problem: an opening double-quote character is hanging at the end of a line. to Wikipedia text display problem: an opening double-quote character is hanging at the end of a line.Dec 27 2018, 5:28 PM
Reedy added a project: MediaWiki-Parser.
Reedy updated the task description. (Show Details)

I don't think there's anything the parser (or any other part of MediaWiki) can do to change this behavior. It's completely up to the browser as far as I know. Would love to be corrected if I'm wrong.

So you think this is a browser bug rather than a wiki software bug?

I assume this is about https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Potato_Head_Blues&oldid=874225012 (for future reference, please provide a testcase). Cannot reproduce in Firefox 64:

Whatever browser this is (please include such information in bug reports), please report the problem to them. Thanks!
