Workflow

A. User wants to find JPEG images of a cat (Depicts search mode)

This Commons user is researching the topic of cats for a school assignment and wants images of cats in the JPEG file format.

Steps

  1. Initial search query: user selects the β€œDepicts” search mode and enters β€œcat” as the depicted item
  2. User deselects all media files except for images and sees results
  3. User edits the query to be more specific by selecting to filter by file format (P2701): JPEG (Q2195) and sees updated results

B. User wants to find all files taken with the iPhone Xs (Other statements search mode)

This Commons user is writing a blog post on the photographic capabilities of the iPhone Xs and needs to find some images to demonstrate them.

Steps

  1. Initial search query: user selects the β€œOther statements” search mode to search for all files with the EXIF make (P2010): Apple (Q312)item and sees results
  2. User edits the query to be more specific by selecting to filter by EXIF model (P2009): iPhone Xs (Q56599248) and sees updated results
  3. User edits the query to sort by least recent to see images in reverse chronological order
