Create a template on mediawiki.org which implements a magic, self-labeling feedback button
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I want a template that is similar like https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:StrategyButton2016/Reach except generic, and working on MediaWiki.org.

The desired features include:

  • It puts the user's name (subst:REVISIONUSER) in the section heading ("Comment from Alice")
  • It gives me the option of preloading some text ("My feedback is... [REPLACE THIS TEXT WITH YOUR IDEA]. ~~~~").
  • It gives me the option of displaying an editintro ("Welcome to the Foo Feedback Page! Please tell us what you think about Foo.")
  • It just works, so that I don't have to re-figure out how to hand-code the complicated URL every time.

Event Timeline

Me, I offered to help genericize the existing template to make it easier to re-adapt in the future. I asked Sherry to file a task so that I could remember later without having yet another entry in my todo.txt notes... :)

Wonderful! Off to file my "I want a pony" tasks. ;)

If @Quiddity doesn't get it done by autumn, then maybe @Aklapper will let him use it to mentor someone as part of #Google-Code-In 2019.

Qgil lowered the priority of this task from Low to Lowest.Mar 29 2019, 9:07 AM

@Aklapper Can you recommend the tags to mark this as an easy task for beginners?

That would be the project tag #easy. :) See https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/profile/169/ for requirements / info to provide to absolute newcomers.

Aklapper renamed this task from Make a magic, self-labeling feedback button to Create a template on mediawiki.org which implements a magic, self-labeling feedback button.Jan 14 2021, 6:11 PM
