[Beta Commons]: All searches show a warning about mixing "entity and article namespaces"
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to Beta Commons
  2. Search for a string (scroll to "containing..." in the autosuggest box)
  3. execute the search
  4. Get the search results page which displays a yellow warning box with the text: "A warning has occurred while searching: Mixing entity and article namespaces in search is currently not supported. Only entity namespaces will be searched."

@EBernhardson did an initial look at the bug (and hopefully he'll provide those insights here ^_^) but it also needs a fix.

Note: Beta Commons may still have Wikibase Federation turned on which could account for differences from production and test commons

So searching article & entity namespace together is not supported (see T194968: Enable search in all wikidata namespaces combined for task about it). So, we have to either configure search so it by default searches only one kind of namespaces, or solve the task above.

We really want to solve T194968 and its related issues as soon as it is reasonable :)

Ramsey-WMF claimed this task.

We're still exploring whether we need to search all Wikidata namespaces at once, but the original problem for this ticket has been solved long ago
