Description

Figure out what the front page should look like. The current proposal is to use Catalan Wikipedia as a starting point: https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Chicocvenancio/Main_Page. Adaption work is taking place on https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sebastian_Berlin_(WMSE)/Main_page.

Todo

  • Mobile view
  • Add translation tags
  • Clean up CSS

Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE moved this task from Backlog to Soon... on the User-Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE board.

I will have a look at the CSS involved and see if I can figure it out.

Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE set the point value for this task to 8.

I've kinda wrapped my head around the slider thingy and created a few templates that should make it easier for people to edit the content.

Are those moving elements accessible?

Are those moving elements accessible?

Do you know of a good way/tool for determining this? I ran the page through a couple of online tools that I found after a quick search (http://wave.webaim.org and https://achecker.ca/checker/index.php) and as far as I understood of the results, they shouldn't cause any issues. I guess that could be due to the checkers no being able to determine exactly what's going on, though, as there's quite a bit of CSS magic involved.

I've managed to implement a solution that gives the "cards" in a mobile friendly format, when the mobile view is used. Here it is (unless I've changed something since): https://wikimania.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sebastian_Berlin_(WMSE)/Main_page.

Accessibility is also about devices. The desktop view has 7 blocks, the mobile view only has 3 blocks.

Since we have more and more readers using mobile, it would be a bit unfair to give them less contents than desktop users, no? :)

I think I'm done with the layout now. It works both on desktop and mobile. There isn't anything in the layout itself to be translated, so I think that will be added with the content.

@Eric_Luth_WMSE, can you have a look and see if you think this would work? If so, I can move it over to the actual main page.

Are you talking about the original or my version? I adapted the latter to work in mobile view as well and it should have all the information. If not, please let me know.

I totally agree.

Your version wasn't in this task. :)

FYI, I see some padding issues on my device (using Firefox):

True, the title was very tight. Fixed the CSS for that.

@Eric_Luth_WMSE and I had a brief discussion and decided that the design is good enough for now. I'm going to move over the template to the template namespace.
