"ʔucināguci" in "Suggested languages" section cannot be selected and has tooltip "undefined"
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I am using Japanese user interface.

ULS always suggests an odd language "ʔucināguci" in "Suggested languages" section.
The language has a tooltip "undefined" and it is unselectable.

Can you please rename its language name to "沖縄口" or "ウチナーグチ"?

Is the language that odd? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okinawan_language

That being said, I will agree if there is no way to select the language then it ought not to appear in the first place.

If it is Okinawan language, the odd name "ʔucināguci" should be renamed (translated) to "沖縄口" or "ウチナーグチ".

I also think that this language shouldn't be removed, but its name should be renamed.

I am not interested in Okinawan and Korean, so please do not suggest in "Suggested languages" section.

Aklapper renamed this task from Remove undefined language "ʔucināguci" to "ʔucināguci" in "Suggested languages" section cannot be selected and has tooltip "undefined".Feb 17 2019, 4:50 AM

Where does it happen that it shows as "undefined"? I do see it as one of the valid languages in translatewiki. (Although, as others have said, it should probably be renamed.)

@Shirayuki

so please do not suggest in "Suggested languages" section.

That should better be filed separated as a ContentTranslation task, since Sugg. lang. are mostly CX-related.

To be more easier, will you agree me to alter your last sentence of your task description to Can you please rename its language name to "沖縄口" or "ウチナーグチ"? This way, most of confusions by the potential users of this very language can be killed by one click.

The screenshot nor the comments does not tell in which context this appears. Is it about selecting an interface language?

The underlying issue seems to be that the suggested languages are displaying languages not appropriate for the context. For example I see kaalengo tšimb listed even though it too cannot be selected as an interface language.

I can reproduce it in mediawiki.org:

Perhaps the reason is that there is no English name defined anywhere. Perhaps a patch to LocalNames in MediaWiki-extensions-CLDR will resolve it?

Feel free to alter the confusing description.

I think this HTML can help you.

<ul class="three columns">
<li title="undefined" data-code="ryu"><a class="autonym" lang="ryu" dir="ltr">ʔucināguci</a></li>
<li title="日本語" data-code="ja"><a class="autonym" lang="ja" dir="ltr">日本語</a></li>
<li title="韓国語" data-code="ko"><a class="autonym" lang="ko" dir="ltr">한국어</a></li>
</ul>

This should get fixed soon. This language's configuration is changing.
