Description

As part of the work I'm doing to automate releases, I've created a makefile that Jenkins should be able use to kick off the process of building a tarball, including all the branching and tagging that needs to be done.

This task will be considered complete when we have integrated the makefile with Jenkins.

Got the build working after resolving problems with it not wanting tab characters in the file (Makefiles love tabs). Created the publicly available https://github.com/hexmode/mw-release to pull from.
Tuesday: After meeting with Cindy, worked on addressing issues that @thcipriani raised. Also started created a debian package git-archive-all
Wednesday: Got the git-archive-all python package debianized. Started working on key-creation and key singing
Figured out that I can save time by not rebuilding the image each time and just update git. .... DUH!
Started reading through https://docs.openstack.org/infra/jenkins-job-builder/quick-start.html and asked for the createion of the python repo https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Gerrit/New_repositories/Requests/Entries&type=revision&diff=3148379&oldid=3148078&diffmode=visual
Began reading and understanding jjb a little better... it was confusing that the dependencies are spread over all the yaml files without good documentation of what depends on what.

Since we won't be automating signing, this seems less important. It is still possible to run all the steps except signing in Jenkins if that is what is desired, but a command line interface that does everything including signing seems just as easy as performing everything but signing in Jenkins and then signing on the command line.
