Number sorting in category names on Commons should be natural (5 should be before 40)
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

The current numerisation on Wikimedia Commons (Commonswiki) prefers to select lower numbers such as 5 before higher numbers such as 40, if you have 1 Dollar, 2 Dollars, 5 Dollars, and 10 Dollars then it will organise it as 1 Dollar, 10 Dollars, 2 Dollars, and 5 Dollars. If you'd add 20 Dollars then it will show up before 5 Dollars, is there a way that the system could learn how to organise 1, 2, 5, 20, 50, 100 instead of 1, 10, 100, 2, 20, 5, 50?

Hi @DonTrung, thanks for taking the time to report this!
Please ALWAYS provide links to reproduce when filing bug reports and strictly follow the scheme on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug .
I have no idea where this is "selected" and "shown up"... :)

See this as an example:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Chinese_customs_gold_units

1000 Customs Gold Units comes before 20 Customs Gold Ynuts.

Aklapper renamed this task from Numerisation on Wikimedia Commons organises numbers like 5 after 40 to Number sorting in category names on Commons should be natural (5 should be before 40).Mar 17 2019, 12:21 PM
