Allow editing of own comments in deletion log
Open, Stalled, LowPublic

Description

Deleting a page is a serious action but it's easy to accidentally pick a wrong reason from any pre-supplied choices on offer in the dropdown menu. That mistake is then frozen into the logs forever. It should be possible to revise a deletion log entry. This would require UI for:

  • Editing the log entry (probably copied from the existing deletion interface)
  • Displaying an indicator next to any entry on Special:Log/delete that has been modified
  • A new log for revisions to any given log entry.

To clarify, are you asking to

  1. Create a new (null) entry in a page's deletion log, to leave the comment, or
  2. Allow editing the comment in the original log entry, and log the editing?
Ammarpad subscribed.

There should be a clear community consensus first before even moving ahead with this task and many similar others. There are many reasons why log entry are/should not be modified perhaps even more reasons than why they should.

The latter.

Tagging Platform Engineering as a feature request to review. As for community consensus, this could require a special right (editlog) that is only given to, eg, 'crats by default; a new configuration option could also be added to enable/disable the ability entirely.

Stalling pending product approval and community consensus to develop such a feature

I'm sorry that I haven't handled this task. I recently returned from a long bout of unexpected inactivity, and while I plan to resume my contributions here on Phabricator its unfair to claim tasks that I might not work on when others may be interested in handling them. I'm removing myself as the assignee in a batch-action, but if someone feels that I really should be the one to handle this task feel free to re-assign me and I'll take a look.
