As a Wikidata user I want to be able to see the thumbnails larger on the UI and check out their metadata while editing a Wikidata entity in order to choose the best file for it.

Problem: If I want to see the full-size image or check out some metadata before saving, currently I have to left-click the thumbnail, copy the file name, open Wikimedia Commons in a new tab and paste the file name there, a tedious and non-obvious process.

Example: I would expect to load the description page of the corresponding file on Commons in a new tab by clicking one of the listed thumbnails with the mouse wheel or the middle button. Some icons of "external link" on the UI or other alternatives might be considered.
