From the user - As an editor for the last 16 years and admin for the last 12, I'm hoping that my experience of using this app for editing since 2016 will be relevant.
A handful of simple missing tools *really* cause problems when trying to edit with the app. Can you do anything about them?
- Reloading/purging takes ages/not automatic when editing in app (but is almost immediate when editing in browser)
When editing on the app, there is no automatic purge/reload of the edited page in the cache. Major annoyance. When I edit via browser the edited version is immediately recognised by the browser. When I edit by app, I have to drag+reload many times to get the updated page recognised and loaded. And there is no purge option either. Edit conflicts take ages to fix as well, on busy articles.
REQUEST: When a page is edited in the app, can a purge be sent, so that the updated version is quickly loadable.
- There is no link for editing the entire page as a whole
You can edit any section (including sections containing subsections), but not the entire page. So you cannot move text between top level sections, add a mention of something to the lede and a subsection, or add a citation needed in >1 top level section, in the same edit. That's really annoying, especially if an article needs cleanup or reorganizing, or there is significant new content.
REQUEST: Please could an "edit" link be added to allow editing the page as a whole.
- There is no way to view editing history or diffs, for the current page.
This is a basic tool for any editing. If you can't see what has happened or been changed, and whether any changes need fixing or correcting, it makes editing extremely painful.
REQUEST: A "page history" link in the bottom toolbar, showing say the last 50-100 edits, with the diff's clickable. At a pinch, just diffing against previous edit would be enough, no need for current.
- There is no quick way to see changes on recently viewed/edited pages
The app shows a list of recent history pages, but no way to see if there's been changes on any of them. When editing, it would *really* help if "number of new edits" were shown next to each, and clicking this led directly to the "recent edits" list for that page (see #3).
(If you've previously edited a page (and presumably interested), perhaps it's also worth showing an icon in the corner to indicate new edits on the page since you last viewed it.)
If these might be too much, perhaps add a setting "enable editing tools", which exposes them. That way readers who don't plan to edit know that editing tools exist, but can ignore them if not interested.
I hope these 4 items are doable because they would make a huge difference, collectively.
I would enjoy any feedback.
