Enable the URLshortener for WDQS
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Once the URL Shortener is enabled on Meta, it should be possible to use it directly from the Wikidata Query Service, just like it is done with bit.ly now:

  • In the dropdown menu "Link", have a button "shortlink to result" that generates a short URL with the Wikimedia URL shortener and allows to copy
  • Option: also have a button "shortlink to query" to generate a link to the query, not to the direct result

Also consider support for using the shorturl in Facebook see T210139: Facebook adds fbclid ==> you cant paste in WDQS tiny URLSs

Hey @Stas, can we add the https:// before the URL on the Query Service? It would be more efficient for the users because Mediawiki doesn't recognize the w.wiki links.

We can, though it would be nicer if UrlSortener service added it. But it's possible to check and add it if the service doesn't. Probably makes sense to add separate task for it.

I already made a patch and will deploy it next week
