Edit summary for claims on Wikimedia Commons should use Labels, not only Q-items (and P-items)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

When adding a depicts statement, the entry (in the watchlist, page history or user contributions) reads as:
“ ‎Created claim: (d:P180): (d:Q27450808)”

image.png (528×1 px, 347 KB)

This should rather use the labels of the Wikidata property and item, like in Wikidata.

In the example above, “Created claim: depicts (P180): Friedrich Moser (Q63283311) ”

This is a totally understandable request, and I wrote a ticket a while ago about this (T219954). Unfortunately, this seems to be very technically difficult because the labels in question are stored remotely in Wikidata, not locally anywhere on Commons. We're keeping this in problem in mind but we don't have a solution for it yet.

Ah, had missed T219954 − feel free to merge this into that one. :)

That, but with bot import? Not the prettiest, but if you haven't been able to think of anything else during the past 7 months I'd say go for it..

It seems to work for properties and some items now. It might work for all when T219123 is done.

It seems to work for properties and some items now.

And now again just for properties. Seems to be related to recent incidents.

EDIT: now I cannot find a single example where the label exists and is not displayed. It really changes day to day, version to version...
