Show sorted categories in multi-column table
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

When pages belong to a long list of categories, it might be convenient for easy lookup by the user to show them alphabetically sorted, in a multi-column table, at the bottom of the page.

I have been writing a simple patch (only changing 2 lines of code in Mediawiki core and one very small CSS update).

This really works like a gem.

See for the code at Snippet

@Geertivp: Hej! Would you fancy updating the code in https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Snippets/Multi-column_sorted_categories to the latest MediaWiki code in https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/plugins/gitiles/mediawiki/core/+/master/includes/skins/Skin.php#534 and propose that code change as a patch in Gerrit? Just curious if you'd like to give that a try.

Also wondering whether to remove the Wikimedia-Hackathon-2019 project tag on this task (via the Add Action...Change Project Tags dropdown), in case this task was not worked on at the Prague Hackathon.
