Allow user to add "now commons" templates to config files
Closed, InvalidPublic

File-movers should be supported as much as possible to mark files on the source wiki as moved to the target wiki. In order for the FileImporter to be able to tell the mover which template needs to be added, there should be a way to leave that info in the config file (example config file).

Acceptance Criteria

  • Every config file has a new section called TODO, with explanatory text TODO (should include a way to include “from FileImporter”, and new file link)

[]TODO: If we do that, how can we encourage people to update them to contain all info we would like to see there? If applicable, that section of the config file is prefilled with info we could get from the Wikidata NowCommons item (entries exist for 106 wikipedias + more, see

Necessary pieces for input in explanatory text:

  • parameter that can be filled with "exported with FileExporter" (or Importer?)
  • parameter that shows the new location of the file on target wiki
  • parameter that deals with renamed files

Example for how such a template that should be filled in could look like: {{Now Commons|FILE|MULTIPLE|date = DATE|bot = BOT|reviewer = REVIEWER}

Change 512675 had a related patch set uploaded (by Awight; owner: Awight):
[mediawiki/extensions/FileImporter@master] [WIP] Suggest NowCommons template for source wiki

Patch was accidentally tagged with this bug.

If people agree with the Wikidata approach I took in T224007, then this task can be closed as "Invalid".

Maybe a better way forward right now is just mentioning that NowCommons templates can be edited on Wikidata instead, see {T223218: Clean up ConfigFiles}
