Testing goals

The iOS team has been working on an MVP of User Talk pages and we would like to ensure that the feature does not have any large usability issues. Unfortunately, testing for understanding of what a User Talk page is or how it works is beyond the scope of this project, so we will not be focusing on these questions during this usability test.
The primary goals of this test are to gain insights on the following aspects of the User Talk feature:

Searching for a User Talk page

  • Are users able to successfully navigate to a User Talk page via search?
  • Are users able to successfully navigate to the Talk page of a User via another User Talk page?

Reading a User Talk page

  • Can users successfully identify discussions?
  • Can users successfully follow discussions and replies?

Ease of replying to a discussion or creating a new discussion

  • Can users successfully respond to a discussion?
  • Can users successfully post a new discussion topic?

Findings

  • 5/5 users were able to complete the full set of tasks without any issues
  • 2 users mentioned that they were unsure of how discussions were ordered and one specifically mentioned wanting to see a time stamp on the list of discussions
  • 1 user could not tell the order of the replies in a discussion (eg. thought they were reverse chronological at first) and 1 user mentioned that they would have liked the time stamp to be more prominent
  • Only 1 user correctly identified the green dots
  • 2 users mentioned being unsure of how to respond to a topic higher up on the thread

Bugs

  • Currently on replies there is a floating 'clear text' button that is not functional
  • Currently on replies, you can occasionally see 'ghost' text being cut off behind the text area or vertical lines on iPad
  • The 'Be kind' banner is sometimes disappearing when the keyboard is up
  • Username is missing from the Account list item in Settings

Things to be mindful of

  • We should double check that the headings on User Talk pages are utilizing the system language

Question: do we want to include more information around time stamps and chronology for users? This would be expanding beyond the Talk designs from mobile web? My instinct is to keep this as is for now, and to wait for broader updates to Talk pages before making changes, but I'm happy to work on designs around this if it feels like something we would like to do.

Yeah, I think we can revisit for real Talk...
