Something went wrong HTTP 404 when using Visual Editor
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

When I tried to save my edit on the Park Avenue Main Line article, this showed up. When I tried to change to source editor, this showed up. This has happened to me before, but is infuriating. I spent at least half an hour on the edit, but will likely lose it. Help would be much appreciated. I also cannot copy references from this article to another wikipedia tab open.
Thanks so much.

That does sound annoying. It looks like a server error, so unlikely a problem in VE itself. As long as your tab is open your edit will be autosaved in your browser, so it should be safe to reload the page and try again later. You could also copy the contents of your edit in another VE session.

W're glad you thought to stay something, @KewGardens613.

For now, we're going to move this to the 'Freezer' considering what @Esanders shared about the issue you encountered likely being the result of a server error (read: not something our team can resolve).

With this said, if you are able to reproduce this issue, please comment here how we might be able to do the same and we'll take a look.

Same problem, again and again. Not reproducable, happens randomized.

so it should be safe to reload the page and try again later.

This doesnt work with me.
If I had the possibility to save the source code but the source-preview doesnt work.

It works when I escape and discard the changes. After that reload with ignoring cache (Firefox Ctrl + F5) and edit again. Then it works.

I set a new priority because the risk is moderate but the impact is disastrous. Hours of work gone.
