Special:Preferences background color of tabs missing
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

In https://en.wiktionary.org in Special:Preferences the background color of the tabs is missing. So i cannot see which of the tabs is currently selected. This also happens in https://de.wiktionary.org and in Special:GlobalPreferences

BTW in Special:GlobalPreferences in the tab "Appearance" the first item of selection lists jumps to the right side of the window depending on the width of the window.

Happens in IE and Firefox.

Event Timeline

I just tested this on an android tablet-pc and there i can see the gray background. So i used a color picker on my desktop-pc to investigate this on my uploaded screenshot. The color picker shows me different numeric values for foreground and background colors, but i can see no difference between these colors. So this seems to be a hardware problem of either my graphic-card or my monitor.

But the jumping selection-list item is not a hallucination.

I definitely see a difference in the background color of the selected tab and the rest of the tabs. If I tilt my screen just right, however, the difference disappears.

The reason why i didn't see the difference was a configured brightness level on my graphic card which was too high. So all gray levels between about 92% gray and 100% white appeared as 100 % white for me :)

Now the only weird behavior is the jumping item in Special:GlobalPreferences in the tab "Appearance", which i have marked with red ellipses above, when the width of the browser window is greater than about 1150 pixels. But i dont know how to change the title of this task.

If this is really the Vector skin then I don't know why the buttons on your machine are rendered incorrectly (e.g. chosen option should be blue).

And how to get the "Select options below to be global" setting displayed, which I do not see...?

But i dont know how to change the title of this task.

@Formatierer: via "Edit Task" in the upper right corner.

Its in Special:GlobalPreferences. And i have no global preferences selected, so they are greyed.
Goto preferences. Select tab "User profile". In "Basic information" there is a line "Global preferences:" and a button "Set your global preferences". Press this button and "Global Preferences" will be opened. There in tab "Appearance" the jumping items can be found.

Ah, sorry! Now that I re-read your task description I see that this task covers several different issues on different pages.
Confirming that some items are incorrectly aligned on https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Special:GlobalPreferences#mw-prefsection-rendering but that's a separate task for MediaWiki-extensions-GlobalPreferences and not MediaWiki-Core-Preferences ?

The reason why i didn't see the difference was a configured brightness level on my graphic card which was too high. So all gray levels between about 92% gray and 100% white appeared as 100 % white for me :)

Closing this task as invalid as there was no issue in the code for the backgrund color of tabs (which is what the task summary covers).
