Description

Public conversion group is a local terms conversion module for similar topics or projects (e.g. computer science, physics, biology). In Chinese Wikipedia, this mechanism can solve the problem of converting the local terms for the articles with the same topics or projects. See the related details (only Chinese):

Currently, this mechanism does not deploy on the translation extension and cannot read the related pages with preferred local terms (e.g. Commons, Meta). I wish that the public conversion group can deploy to the extension.

I'm worried about the maintenance cost, do you think the conversion group could be shared. I think this is best presented as a gadget, and users can opt-in, instead of enabled by default. in this case, we can worry less about compatibility issue.

The shared conversion group is the best way to reduce the needs for maintenance. I support this idea. But I want to see other opinions and take with a grain of salt about the gadget.

Emm, the conversion group is a feature of translation extension? As far as I know, translation extension do not provide the ability to convert variants.

You can see T224701. The translation extension provided the Chinese variants of Mainland China, HK, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. However, the local commons terms about the topics (e.g. biology, physics, computer science) of these regions have not deployed yet.
