Create subpage for Wikispeech Speech Data Collector
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Create a subpage to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikispeech for the Wikispeech Speech Data Collector as the reference link used in any materials.

This page would be good to have in time for Wikimania and linked to from the poster

Suggested implementation:

  • Drop the current contents of meta:Wikispeech
  • Move the current contents of mw:Wikispeech to meta:Wikispeech (incl. sub-pages).
  • Break out the contents of the Wikispeech page directly related to the 2015-2017 project to a sub-page (similar to what was done for the Wikispeech/Pilot Study). Name of sub-page to be bikeshedded.
  • Set up a sub-page Wikispeech/Speech Data Collector for the new project containing specific info about that. <-- This is what we link to from the poster
  • Update the contents of Wikispeech To include links to the sub-pages and some generalities.

We should also think a bit about the relation of meta:Wikispeech and mw:Wikispeech and where the general description makes most sense (especially once we have a subpage for the Speech Data Collector)

My (potentially controversial) suggestion:

  • Break out the contents of the Wikispeech page directly related to the 2015-2017 project to a sub-page (similar to what was done for the Wikispeech/Pilot Study). Name of sub-page to be bikshedded.

Lokal_Profil moved this task from Backlog to This Week on the User-Sebastian_Berlin-WMSE board.

Looks good to me.

As we're doing this, we should also clean up the current mw:Wikispeech. It has two empty sections ("Status" and "Dashboards"). "History" is also terribly outdated (last entry was me being hired...) so I think we should either add (a lot) of stuff there or cut it.

OK. Then I'll go ahead with the move. I'll initially set up Wikispeech/Speech Data Collector as a redirect back to Wikispeech, so that we can use the link before we create the content. I'll also leave the cleanup/update of Wikispeech until later.

Started work on this at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sebastian_Berlin_(WMSE)/Wikispeech_2016.

. Name of sub-page to be bikshedded.

How about Wikispeech 2016-2018 (check years) to not invent new terminology

We could also just have the start year, e.g. "Wikispeech 2016" (or is it 2015?). Shortening it even more, to "Wikispeech 16", would probably be confusing since it's not clear that 16 is supposed to be a year (and not that we've already made 15 earlier versions).

That is also a good idea =)

On the main meta page we should tie in the quote “Wikipedia should go beyond [the] written format. We live in an audio-visual world now, so Wikipedia should not miss this opportunity and responsibility to make its content orally available.”TECHNOLOGY, UNITED STATES from The Movement strategy document
