Homepage doesn't tell where a question from the "ask helpdesk" module goes
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

I've just noticed the homepage doesn't say anything about where a question asked via the "ask helpdesk" module goes. Maybe that's why it isn't used much? See screenshot.

In fact, I don't know how to even refer to that question asking possibility, except the awkard "ask using the ask question button in Get helped with editing section".

@Urbanecm -- are you saying that the module on the homepage should make it more clear what happens when the user clicks "Ask the help desk"? Because once they do click it, the modal that opens explains what will happen.

Exactly. i think users don't click buttons blindly, something must attract their attention.

Culture note: The button says "Ask a question" when back-translated, but that's because there's no truly equivalent word for "helpdesk" - the only used "translation" is "helpdesk" itelf, which is understood just by tech-savvy people - not something we want. That adds some degree of (potential) confusion.

Thanks, @Urbanecm. I'm going to close this as a duplicate of T223189, because that's the task where we're talking about how to make it clearer to the user about what is happening when they ask a question.

@MMiller_WMF: I'm going to use Edit Related Tasks...Close As Duplicate in the upper right corner, to make this relation clearer.
