Publicize the movement metrics report to the broader movement
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

We have been regularly publishing key movement metrics on mw:Wikimedia Product since 2015 and occasionally presenting them at monthly activities meetings, but we've never made a habit of proactively publicizing them across the movement, even there would definitely be interest.

At some point, we should start doing that, using wikimedia-l and possibly other channels like the Wikipedia Weekly Facebook group and the new Wikimedia Space.

However, there are some things we need to consider first:

  • Publicizing these metrics to a wide audience will naturally draw more questions about what they are and what they mean. We don't necessarily need to answer them all, but we should set clear expectations for how responsive we plan to be and do what we can to reduce the burden with clear documentation.
  • One big potential source of our confusion is the fact that our choice of metrics doesn't fully align with the selection at Wikistats 2.0.

Event Timeline

This would be nice to do, but there's no real prospect that we'll have capacity for it anytime soon (particularly since it proposes a significant amount of recurring work). Until that changes, it's not useful to have this open.
