Well, I've tried to upload one file myself, and it suceeded, see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dyke_March_Berlin_2019_382.jpg.

Adding projects that might be relevant, not #wikimedia-site-request. In theory, I can server-side upload all of them, but I'd rather to see why it's not possible to do it for you via the web. It's below 100 MB, which should be possible even using the old interface (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload).

All the files from the series, that I successfully upladed have less than 10MB, The four files that do not work for me are 10MB+. I cannot access the Uploadstash. It times out after 60 seconds, because there are still hundreds of files from failed uploads.

The files in the series are in iOS portrait mode.

I tried with the files 383 to 385. It took extremly long on ubuntu, but 383 succeded, while 384 and 385 failed with "network connection issues". I experienced this problem before and the only solution was to upload with another OS.

@C.Suthorn: Hmm, "network connection issues" sounds like a different error?
Was that an error message shown by the browser software itself, or was it shown in the browser but on a Wikimedia website?

It is text, that is displayed within the uploadwizard: I uploaded three files. One succeded (after a very long time), two showed the text "connection issues" (all three messages in the same instance/tab of the uploadwizard at the same time).

There are (for me) two work arounds: use Windows instead of ubuntu (worked for me later that day), or: make WMF downgrade the uploadwizard to a two year old software version (not tried yet).

I'm not sure that's UploadWizard fault. Why do you think so? Do you face connection issues only with UploadWizard? Does using Special:Upload work without problems? Can you post full error message, or (that'd be better) a screenshot?

We won't downgrade UploadWizard to a two year old software version. There might have been numerous security bugs in UploadWizard and there might be compatibility problems with significantly newer software. Please answer my questions above, to help me determine if it's faulty uploadwizard (in which case, I can find a way how to reproduce the issue, and fix it/identify the broken portion of code), or something else. Thank you.

This video is older, but shows the problem:

Another example:

  • upload 50 files (if you are limited to 50)
  • chose "upload more files" (from the exit page)
  • chose a file to upload
  • you get the message "you are uploading 51 files, you are only allowed 50"

Another example:

  • upload some files
  • chose "upload more files" (from the exit page)
  • chose file "X" to upload
  • you get the message "you are already uploading file "X" "

Another example:

  • upload
  • license page
  • thumbnails are loaded
  • chose "own license"
  • enter text in the input files
  • thumbnails disapear
  • thumbnails are loaded
  • wait
  • wait
  • now you can click the blue button

Please answer the questions in T229249#5389462.

This task is about the error "Internal error: Server failed to store temporary file." as written in the task summary.
Other random errors should be tracked in other tasks. Only one issue per report, please.

@C.Suthorn Please answer my questions in T229249#5389462. If I won't hear from you in a week, I might close this task as invalid, since there's nothing actionable for the developers. Thank you.

I am trying to avoid these errors in the uploadwizard. Upload files takes time. If an upload stalls and after minutes or an hour the browser crashes (or only the tab with the upload wizard) I have lost work and time. Still I have tried to record a screen video of some uploads - but in that cases the upload worked. What can be reproduced is, uploading some files, than when the wizard asks "do you want to upload more files" (not the add more files stage!), choose some more files and after upload starts a window pops up "you are already uploading (name of the first file of the second batch)". Only option is "ok" and after that this "duplicate" file uploads ok. If you upload in more than one batch a number of files that together exceed the limit of 50 (500 for me) you get a window "to much files" -> ok -> upload works. To me it seems, that the wizard does not correctly clean up variables after a batch of uploaded files. It also seems to me that the wizard has a memory leak, causing the crashes that occur randomly, but mostly in connection with uploads of large numbers of files. If the loading and display of thumbnails by the wizard could be unticked with a checkbox - that might be a workaround of this memory leak.

Reproducing is basically only possible by uploading large number of files. From time to time I see reports of similar errors in com:forum but they are not reported to phab.

That seems like another issue. Please keep only one issue per task, to not confuse developers. Thanks!

If reproducing is possible only under specific cirumstances, say so. If you are able to reproduce the issue only when uploading more than 20 files, say so and we will test that case ourself, and if we run into an error, we can fix it. The important thing is to have a step by step guide describing how to reproduce. That guide can be provided either as text (please be as specific as possible), or (preferred) in a screencast. Thank you.

It is sporadic. I can think of no way to reproduce (provoke) it. I am trying to avoid these errors by changing browsers and OSs.

The files mentioned in this task originally are all online by now. If it is one issue per task: Close it. But the uploadwizard has errors. You stumble on this issues, if you regularly upload big amounts of files (i.e. do not close the wizard, but upload more than one batch). Probably many people change to Commonist are other external tools. Or give up on commons.

Going through this task and the date of the comments: T228749 and T228929 got fixed five weeks ago, which sound similar and would fit in the time frame when you experienced these issues. ("network connection issues" are out of scope for this task.)

@C.Suthorn: Does this problem still happen lately? If it does, in your user preferences, under the
Upload Wizard" tab (Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-uploads), what is the value of Maximum number of concurrent uploads?
