Confirm changes to edit flow comply with legal requirements
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We are exploring changes to the mobile edit flow. This includes where and how the legal disclaimer [1] is shown in the mobile Save dialog .

Before implementing any changes (see: T229428), we would like to understand what legal constraints we need to be aware of and be compliant with.

Examples of "legal constraints" we have in mind:

  • i. What are the policies around where and how the legal disclaimer [1] is shown?
    • i.i Is it okay with legal if the legal disclaimer is displayed at the footer of the Save dialog? This would mean that for contributors using smaller devices, the legal disclaimer would not be visible to them while they are typing their edit summary.
  • ii What – if any – policies exist about where and how the sign in prompt/disclaimer [2] is shown in the edit flow?

"Done"

  • We know what – if any – policies we need to comply with as it relates to the mobile editing interfaces.

  1. Legal disclaimer: "By publishing changes, you agree to the Terms of Use, and you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL. You agree that a hyperlink or URL is sufficient attribution under the Creative Commons license."

This flow looks great, Jess. I made a couple of suggestions about the wording of the questions (borrowed from this task's description) in the invision (also pasted below).

Log in prompt

  1. Can we remove the word "obtrusive" from the yellow box? Thinking: IMO, this dialog provides valuable information and actions. Whether these "actions" and "information" are a) presented in the best way and/or b) at the right point in the edit flow are TBD, but I don't think we can assume it doesn't have any value.
  2. Can we rephrase the question to read: "What – if any – policies exist about a) where this screen is shown in the edit flow and b) how the information within this screen is presented (e.g. could the 'Warning...' text be moved to the bottom of the screen?)?"

We've received and responded to legal's guidance on how the copyright licensing and IP editing disclaimers should be presented within the edit flow.
