We are skipping the checks for complex content such as math formulas that does not need to be modified when translating. Lists are not fitting in that concept. In the example, most of the content is expected to be translated. So I'm inclined to apply the usual checks to their content.
Having said that, I have the impression that lists seem more prone to contain contents that may not need translation compared to a regular paragraph. I'm thinking of lists of proper names, movie titles, cities, etc. so it would be good to evaluate some list intensive articles before we consider changing the current behaviour.
