Data Exported from Civi contains spaces
Open, Needs TriagePublic2 Estimated Story Points

Description

Data exported from Civi can sometimes contain spaces that make it difficult to use in a clean and efficient manner.

For example, email lists exported from Civi can contain spaces around some of the emails. This makes it difficult for the email team to upload this list into IBM.

Goal would be to make it easier to export and parse data without extra spaces (fwiw, text to columns delimiting on space did not fix the problem, after multiple attempts).

Event Timeline

@NNichols I originally assumed that the 'some' of the emails would be ones with spaces in them in Civi - but I only find about 1000 emails in our db that start or end in space so that seems unlikely - can you give me steps to replicate?

@Eileenmcnaughton I don't know if these spaces exist around the email in civi. We are running into this issue when we export emails. The CSV that we get has spaces at the end of the emails in the cell.

@NNichols I removed spaces from the emails in civi - 1480 emails affected - but I don't think that's it.

I can't replicate it though...

@NNichols we are unable to reproduce this and we are going to take this out of sprint. Please let us know if you are still blocked here.

@Eileenmcnaughton @DStrine
I'll keep this on our radar. The next time we pull emails from civi for a manual upload to IBM is the annual appeal. I'll make sure to ping you with the sheet so you can see an example.
