This task will track the replacement of the existing CM4148 scs-c1-codfw (single PSU) with a newly ordered CM7148 (dual PSU).
Please note there is an identical task for the replacement of scs-c1-codfw via T231686.
This is a non-urgent task, but we do want to have it in place and in use quickly enough that if there is an issue, we can return it for a replacement.
The new CM7148 differs from the CM4148 in the following ways:
- It has redundant power supplies.
- It no longer uses a special pin-out cable, an instead uses standard cat5 patch cables. This means @Papaul has to do one of the two following options for the new console to work:
However, the CM7148 can accept the direct configuration backup of the CM4148, making restoration of the configuraiton the fastest way to make these work. @RobH did a replacement of the scs-ulsfo via T230077, and the checklist for this swap is based off that experience.
scs-a8-codfw replacement checklist:
- - receive in new scs via T228203, add to netbox as 'future-scs-c1-codfw' (ordered via T228203 on 2019-08-30)
- - detail out every connection/port/cable# for the existing scs-c1-codfw (in case the configuration backup/restore fails.)
- - detail out the ip configuraiton, snmp, syslog, and sntp settings (in case the configuration backup/restore fails.)
- - replace all existing orange patch cables in place, leaving them for the physical console swap OR ensure every cable that will be re-crimped will have enough slack to do so.
- - update the existing CM4148 scs-c1-codfw to the newest firmware, this ensures the best compatibility of the configuration backup.
- - create a backup of the CM4148 scs-c1-codfw configuration via the mgmt web interface https://scs-c1-codfw.mgmt.codfw.wmnet
- - erase the configuration of the existing CM4148 before unracking via https://scs-c1-codfw.mgmt.codfw.wmnet and then remove from the rack
- - update the netbox entry for the CM4148 scs-c1-codfw to set the hostname as the asset tag, and set the status to offline.
- - rack the new CM7148 as scs-c1-codfw, update its netbox entry (active state, remove future- from hostname)
- - connect all new serial connections, update netbox to note every single connection. (See the netbox entry for scs-ulsfo as an example.)
- - test ALL serial connections post migration and ensure all items are online. Any not online will require further testing.
