In the German interface, the label for the sorting criteria isn't shown correctly - it doesn't show the actual criteria.
In the English interface, everything works as expected:

We had a quick look and can confirm this is indeed a "lego message", made from https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Advancedsearch-field-preview-sort and https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Advancedsearch-sort-preview-relevance.
We could not reproduce the bug. @Tobi_WMDE_SW, do you remember how and where exactly this happened? Can you try again, and close this bug if it disappeared?
Still cannot reproduce this, we would need more information.
Here are examples of the default search order on de.wikipedia.org, in German:

This is a bogus sort order, but demonstrates that the fallback is to show the unknown key,

Passing an empty sort defaults to "relevance" again,
