$stdlogo should probably not be in quotes, unless the logo file is literally called $stdlogo.

And yep, its in quotes in the config file.

Ok, thanks to Platonides we know that the logo is being manually overwritten by a css file:

There is a line that is setting the logo to load a GIF rendering of the old image.
