Note
Help message will need to stay but the sentence requesting feedback should be deleted at some point in the future.

Event Timeline

I'd like to handover to @Hanna_Petruschat_WMDE to: suggest a design (a box? where? gray or colored? with an icon?)

Hi @thiemowmde, Could you provide a screenshot of the site you're talking about. I'm not certain in which state this comes up und therefore it's hard to make a valid suggestion. Thanks!

The idea is to show this message not only on the actual Special:ImportFile page (example screenshot), but always, including scenarios that don't show the bigger import form but only an error/warning/info message. Here is an example for such a message.

I think this could be a good task for @Erdinc_Ciftci_WMDE

Would do something similar to the feedback message here T250501 (OOUI MessageWidget type: 'notice'). The wording is already in the ticket. Would add an acceptance criteria that these links should open in a new window. There is already an investigation into how to do this, if it's found that it's not possible/ too much tech debt, then I would also take it out here.

The only open question is if there needs to be anything additional to lead people to the help page.

  • Could be adding an extra sentence to the wording: For help on using this feature, read more here (link to help page).
  • Add a separate info icon, with a pop-up using same language. (Not sure if this is worth the extra work and extra steps for the user to reach the info. This is how it's done on 2ColConf, though so maybe it's a pattern we should be following. Let's discuss)
  • Add extra text at top of page with basic how-to info.

If you have any feedback about this feature, please report it here. For questions concerning specific files and their licensing, please consult this page.

Can we please avoid labeling links with "this" and "here"? The last link, for example, should be labeled "… please consult the Wikimedia Commons community." Or something like "Details about this feature are explained on the help page."

@thiemowmde Good point, I agree your suggestions improve it significantly. I'll keep this in mind for future wording as well.

Btw - I assume that this message will build on the work done in the ticket: T246103. We discussed how to open links in a new tab from a message like this, plus how to make a dimissable message/ set a cookie without JS.

@Andrew-WMDE Here is the RTL logo to use with the colors adjusted for the gray background

Here is the svg of LTR, same as the png in the task description:
