Add temporary, always visible help and/or request for feedback message
Open, Needs TriagePublic

After small deployment (T232539) we expect more people to use the feature, and more people running into issues and having questions. How do these people know which issue should be reported where? Some error messages now contain a link to a project page (T228858), but most don't.

We expect the following types of feedback:

  • I want to learn what the feature is, how it works, how to use it → help page
  • I run into an issue with a specific file because of licensing and such, and want to understand what's going on → Commons community
  • I run into a technical issue or do have a feature request → us

It is suggested to have some kind of info icon or text banner on top of the page. Something like "this is a new feature, please ask questions about individual files here and technical issues there". Advanced-Search had something similar for a brief period, see Their wording was How does the new interface work for you? Please give us [$1 feedback] (opens in new tab).

If you have any feedback about this feature, please report it here. For questions concerning specific files and their licensing, please consult this page.

To do

  1. @JStrodt_WMDE suggests a wording and a time-frame for how long the feedback request should be shown. (DONE, see above)
  2. @raja_wmde suggests a design (a box? where? gray or colored? with an icon?).

Event Timeline

I'd like to handover to @Hanna_Petruschat_WMDE to: suggest a design (a box? where? gray or colored? with an icon?)

Hi @thiemowmde, Could you provide a screenshot of the site you're talking about. I'm not certain in which state this comes up und therefore it's hard to make a valid suggestion. Thanks!

The idea is to show this message not only on the actual Special:ImportFile page (example screenshot), but always, including scenarios that don't show the bigger import form but only an error/warning/info message. Here is an example for such a message.
