Edit counter was set wrong after migrating Wikivoyage?
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

It seems the contribution counter was set wrong when migrating Wikivoyage. Its not a big thing and its probably not fixable after that long time. Look at my one: 301580 contributions. But there should be around 94000. The count on Wikivoyage/de ist right. I have 65000 edits right now, but it seems all migrated Wikivoyage wikis were set to the same count (34.563) when starting on the WMF servers. All counts, but not WV/de should be reduced by 34.563 in my case:

  • it.wikivoyage.org
  • en.wikivoyage.org
  • sv.wikivoyage.org
  • ru.wikivoyage.org
  • fr.wikivoyage.org
  • nl.wikivoyage.org

Other users counts look the same ( e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/RolandUnger )

But as stated above. It's been a long time and I am not sure whether you can reproduce what happend that time, but the counts look a bit weired to me.

Event Timeline

Running initEditCount.php on wikivoyages would probably fix the local edit counts, but we would probably need to update that one to also fix the global edit count since that one is now also saved in a separate table.

CentralAuth has a populateGlobalEditCount.php maintenance script, which will recalculate the counts for all users. It will probably take a long time, but you could run it after initEditCount.php. This will also hide other inconsistencies in the numbers (I was working on T313900 recently and found that some global edit counts are slightly off for unknown reasons).

I don't think any code changes are needed here, so re-tagging.
