http://ja.wikipedia.org/stats/usage_200309.html
shows a lot of good stuff, but I just noticed the "search
string" section contain many jibberish. I guess it has to
do with the fact that people use different character
codes (UTF-8, Shift-JIS, EUC). But I could be wrong.
Compared with the amount of info. from other parts of
the page, this is a small bug, and its not even about
Mediawiki itself. But it would be nice if someone could
takes care of this sometime in the future.
thanks,
Tomos

I guess that would require hacking on webalizer, or running
some kind of filter over the logs to try to detect the
charset of referrer string data and convert it. Ewwwww... :)

There seems to have been little development recently on
webalizer. There's an option to compile it in different
languages though, and there might be a version that's
already hacked to support japanese encoding better. If you
find either an url to such a version or have a working
binary let us know. The support for per-language webalizer
bins is already in the script that produces the stats. Just
a matter of dropping a webalizer-jp bin into a dir.

Thanks for the comments. A quick google search returns a
few such things. There seem to be an official support for
Japanese and many different languages available here:
ftp://ftp.mrunix.net/pub/webalizer/lang/
Have this been tried already?
